A $5,000 reward has been issued for a Tampa man wanted for the sexual assault of a minor.

Christopher L. Jones, 37, is registered as a violent sex offender in the state of Florida and is required to wear an electronic GPS on his ankle.

Police said Jones cut off his ankle monitoring system before fleeing to avoid being arrested on charges of sexual battery to a minor under the age of 12 and lewd and lascivious molestation of a family member.

Jones is also wanted for violation of probation on an original charge of sexual battery. Police said his criminal history includes several violent sexual assaults, batteries and kidnapping.

The U.S. Marshals Service is now searching for Jones, who they call "an extremely violent and dangerous repeat sexual offender."

Anyone with information about Jones and his whereabouts is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 813-309-0467.  Callers can remain anonymous.
