Two men suspected of a crime spree in Citrus and Hernando counties were stopped in their tracks by their victims, officials said.

Authorities say Johnathan Braden, 27, and Timothy Stone, 29, started their spree Tuesday at a home on Flavian Road in Hernando County when they were caught by Matt Morgan, who was home with his wife at the time.

Deputies said Braden and Stone were stealing items off their porch when one of them came face to face with the Morgans.

"These guys were moving quick and just going through everything that they could see," Morgan said.

Authorities said the suspect had a knife. Matt got his gun.

"One guy stuck his head to the window and said, 'Me and my buddy, we've been hurt,' and I told him, 'I don't care how badly you been hurt, you better get off my property or bad things are going to happen,'" Morgan said.

The men eventually took off, but one didn't get very far. Stone was arrested near the Morgans' home.

Braden ran off and made it across county lines to Citrus County.  Authorities said he tried to burglarize a home on Old Jones Road in Floral City, which was located about a mile away from the home on Flavian Road, but this time he was not very successful.

Investigators said Braden was shot and killed by the homeowner's adult son, 37-year-old Theron Dunn.  Deputies said Dunn, who lives on his parents' property, heard noises, and so he went to investigate with a weapon in hand.

Deputies said Dunn entered the home to find Braden pointing a gun at home. Braden had armed himself with one of his parent's weapons, deputies said.

The two men became engaged in a short standoff, and Dunn convinced Braden to put the gun down and leave.  As Braden was walking out, though, he hit Dunn in the face, then got behind Dunn and started choking him, deputies said.

Dunn retrieved his gun, then reached around and fired the weapon behind him, shooting Braden, investigators said.

Dunn, who didn't have access to a phone, posted a message on Facebook. A friend saw the message and called authorities.

When deputies responded, they found Braden dead.

The investigation continues.  The State Attorney's Office is expected to review the case.
