A 75-year-old man was arrested last week after police said he was drunk when he hit and killed a bicyclist in September.

Ronald L. Akins is facing a second-degree felony charges of driving under the influence manslaughter, police said.

According to Lakeland police, Byers Levy, 59, was riding around Lake Hollingsworth on Sept. 8 when he was struck and killed by Akins.

The follow-up investigation determined Akins had blood alcohol levels of 0.09 and 0.10 at the time of the crash, investigators said. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.

Akins was taken to the Polk County Jail without bail.
