Tampa teen on bike struck, killed on Gunn Highway

A 16-year-old bicyclist was struck from behind by a pickup truck on Gunn Highway and killed Monday night, deputies said.

Anthony Greene of Tampa was riding south on the highway at Jana Drive around 8:30 p.m. when Christopher Griffith, 18, of Tampa approached in a 2002 Dodge truck. Griffith, who was traveling at about 45 mph, couldn't avoid the cyclist and hit him, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Greene was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

Deputies said Green was riding about two feet east of the west fog line when he was hit. There is no bike lane or paved shoulder on Gunn Highway in that area.
