Hernando County deputies say they found the source of missing campaign signs in the Spring Hill area.

Deputies started investigating Oct. 12 after getting complaints from political candidates regarding the missing signs.

Detectives say they were able to identify a suspect though several posts to his Facebook account, claiming that he was "cleaning up Hernando County" and "was removing political signs from vacant lots."

Deputies say he also posted pictures on his Facebook page of the signs that he had removed.

More than 200 signs were recovered from the man’s home. Detectives say he did not target a specific candidate or party affiliation.

The man told deputies he removed the signs but believed the candidates did not have permission to place the signs at those locations, and they were "illegally dumping."

Detectives confirmed that the candidates did have permission to place campaign signs on the properties. The total value of the stolen signs was $1,220.

The case has been forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for review and charges are pending.
