A 60-year-man died Tuesday morning after a fire at a Lakeland home.

According to Polk County Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to 2701 Thelma Drive off of Morgan Combee Road at 8 a.m. due to a house fire. Crews arrived to find flames that started in a bedroom of the home.

Firefighters put out the flames and found the body of Henry West IV in the bedroom. Detectives said they didn't find any signs of apparent trauma to West's body. They also said West was a smoker, and that investigators found evidence of recent smoking in his bedroom.

West's 21-year-old son, Chism, and his 82-year-old mother, Joan, managed to get out of the house before it became fully engulfed in flames, detectives said.

There is no known cause of the fire or damage estimate yet, but officials said at least 60 percent of the home was destroyed.

The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the fire. An autospy will be conducted on Wednesday to determine the cause of West's death. No foul play is suspected.
