The Hernando County Housing Authority will be taking applications for residents in need of housing assistance.

For three days next week, the agency will be accepting applications and conducting a lottery to add 500 households to its Housing Choice Voucher waiting list.  The application period is from 8 a.m., Monday, October 27 through 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 29.

The program aims to help low-income households with rent payments.

To qualify, annual gross household income cannot exceed:

  • 1 Person = $20,100
  • 2 Person = $23,000
  • 3 Person = $25,850
  • 4 Person = $28,700
  • 5 Person = $31,000
  • 6 Person = $33,000

All applicants will be screened for previous violent criminal or illegal drug activity.

This is the first time since 2007 that the program has accepted applications.

Apply online at www.waitlistcheck.com/FL1555.  Applicants may use any computer, tablet or smart-phone with internet access to apply. Computers with free internet access are available at all public libraries.

If you cannot apply online, you may request a paper application ahead of the waiting list opening. However, you must also explain why you cannot apply online. Written requests should be submitted to the Housing Authority, 1661 Blaise Dr., Brooksville, FL 34601.

Completed paper applications must be received by the Housing Authority on or before 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29.
