Two cities in Manatee County have new mayors.

In Holmes Beach, voters elected Bob Johnson with 60 percent of the vote, defeating David Zaccagnino, a city commissioner for Holmes Beach since 2005.

Johnson, a longtime Holmes Beach resident, said he has more than 40 years of military and business experience running facilities and private businesses much larger than Holmes Beach.

Residents of Holmes Beach also voted on a commission seat and 18 charter amendments.

In the Anna Maria mayoral election, Dan Murphy was able to unseat Incumbent SueLynn.

Murphy won with 59 percent of the vote. If elected, Murphy had said he’d tackle the following uses in the first 90 days: parking, revenue, pier park, technology, development, efficiency, expenses and construction.

Residents of Anna Maria Island also voted on a commission seat.

Countywide, Mary Cantrell won a school board seat in District 5 and incumbent Carol Whitmore was re-elected to District 6 with 60 percent of the vote.
