No matter what time of day it is, Louverna Cox wants to make sure the school children in her neighborhood are safe.

Three years ago, Cox decided the traffic on her Bradenton street was too dangerous for school children getting on and off the bus.

“The traffic was so bad that it upset me,” Cox said. “I would sit at the kitchen table and the traffic was just zip, zip, zip and here comes kids standing, waiting to cross.”

Cox, 84, decided it was time to take action. She got traffic cones from her church and sets them up twice a day.

“I try to be out here exactly at 7 a.m.,” Cox said. “Sometimes, it’s a couple of minutes after because I've got three cats, extra cats - not mine - that I feed.”

The kids know Cox as Miss Lou. She keeps a close eye on everyone, making sure everybody gets to and from school, safe and sound.
