Seven-year-old Alan Landers is excited his second annual Superhero Fun Run was a success.

The New Heights Elementary second-grader started the fundraiser last year as a school project to help raise money to send veterans on Honor Flights.

"I like superheroes," said Alan. “Veterans are the real heroes, why not do a superhero fun run for the actual heroes?"

"Last year we sent eight," he said. "This year right now we’re at 23 and a half."

Last year, the 7-year-old raised $3,200. This year, Alan raised $9,400, with about 70 people participating in the mile run.

He’s already talking about next year’s run.
