A Brooksville mom who said she was laid off from her job about a year ago is hoping to turn her passion for homemade body scrubs into a business with the help of strangers through the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

"Maybe somebody would be willing to help me out, so that I can support myself," entrepreneur Brandi Malvi said. "Recently got married. So, my husband also, he's looking for work up here and just to be able to bring some income into the house."

Malvi, 37, is asking for $250 to get her business called Vintage Bathhouse off the ground. According to her Kickstarter page, she's raised $140 so far and has 8 days left to meet her goal or she doesn't get any of the money. Malvi said when you don't have a job, $250 is a lot of money.

"I'm thinking this would buy some sugar and just a few things to kind of get me going," she said. "I'm not a greedy person but I just figured if it would help me to at least kick start it."

Mali doesn't want to give her secret recipes away but said almost all of the ingredients in her body scrubs can be found in your kitchen.

"Jokingly on my Kickstarter, I say 'edible body scrubs' because technically you can eat pretty much everything that's in there," she said. "It's completely non-toxic. There's no harmful chemicals whatsoever."

Mali, who has a 7-year-old son, said she got the idea to start a body scrub business when she was having coffee with a friend.

"She's like, 'You know, you always have this glow to your skin. You smell like really good. What do you use?' So, I started telling her about my scrubs," Mali said. "She's like, 'do you have any? 'Maybe you can make me one?' So, that's kind of where it all jumped off from."

Mali said she plans to sell an 8 ounce jar of her body scrubs for $8.50.
