Pasco County recently received a $500,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

The grant will be used to expand water services to the Lacoochee community, located in the northeast corner of Pasco County.

The project will upgrade three wells and extend a central water system to areas that are on individual wells. It also aims to improve public safety by installing water mains in the area for fire protection.

The county says it's part of a commitment to make sure residents have quality water, both now and in the future.

The project is expected to be completed in 2015.
