A Spring Hill man is facing charges in connection with the theft of hundreds of campaign signs in Hernando County.

Detectives started investigating the thefts after receiving complaints from several political candidates on Oct. 12, who said their campaign signs had disappeared from several places around Spring Hill.

Detectives said John Steven Good, 50, made several posts on Facebook saying he was "cleaning up Hernando County" and "removing political signs from vacant lots." Detectives said Good also posted pictures of the signs he had removed on Facebook.

Investigators went to Good's house and found more than 200 political signs stacked up on the driveway, officials said. Detectives spoke to Good's wife, who said her husband had taken the campaign signs because he considered them an "eye sore," as they were on vacant lots.

In all, investigators said they recovered 244 signs from Good's home. The signs belonged to the following candidates: Hamilton Hanson, Dan Oliver, Jeff Holcomb, Susan Duval, Dave Koller, Rose Rocco, James Scavetta, Jimmy Lodato, Wayne Dukes, Don Whiting, Mark Johnson, Robert Neuhausen, Brian Moore, Denise Lyn, Adrian Wyllie, Penny for Projects, and Rick Scott.

Detectives said Good confirmed that he removed the signs from the vacant lots, because he believed the candidates didn't have permission to put the signs at those locations and that they were "illegally dumping."  They said he didn't target a specific candidate or party affiliation.

However, detectives said the candidates had permission to put their campaign signs on those properties.

The total value of the stolen signs was estimated at $1,220.

Good is facing seven counts of petit theft.  Bond was set at $1,750.
