Erika Remsberg is running as a Democrat for the District 2 seat on the Pasco County Commission.

1. Why are you running for this office?

As a social worker I understand the need for comprehensive planning and working with others toward common goals.  I want to help align county policy and budget spending with the people who live in Pasco.

I will insist spending is transparent and decisions are based on a data-driven needs assessment of public services, rather than setting budget priorities according to the desires of affluent special interests and anonymous on-line public opinion surveys. Currently large business interests are well represented on the commission.

My goal is to be the voice for the residents of Pasco and small business owners.

2. Why do you think you are the best qualified candidate for the office?

I have been advocating for people for over 22 years.  I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Professional Educator.  Over the last 13 years I have been serving families and meeting with faith-based, social service and civic groups all over Pasco. I have no financial investments in business or land other than my home so my votes with be completely objective.

My skills include budget development, grant writing, audit preparation, program development/management, consensus building, needs assessments, community organization, crisis intervention and compliance.  I have support from voters representing both parties and do not participate in divisive politics, my focus is on getting the job done.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

I want to help get all of Pasco working, support small-business growth, maximize our natural resources to support eco-tourism and increase our county transit services.  Work-force development provides opportunity and increased transit offers accessibility.  We will not be a regional economic partner unless we can provide a steady stream of qualified workers who can get around our county easily.

I think it is short-sighted to continuously utilize our minimal financial resources attempting to lure employers from other areas instead of focusing our energies on economic endeavors that will benefit a broader range of residents now.  Most small business owners I have spoken to have said they struggle finding qualified workers.  Given the pockets of poverty here in Pasco providing a pathway to work to those not working will benefit us all.  Businesses want workers who can hit the ground running, let's get Pasco working and thriving!
