Veterans Day ceremonies & events

Bay Pines VA Veterans Day Ceremony: The ceremony features live music, a parade of colors, the posting and retiring of the U.S. flag, a firing salute, and more. The event starts Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center and National Cemetery at Bay Pines.

Veterans Memorial Park: The 50th annual tribute includes a drill demonstration by JROTC cadets, a wreath tribute, gun salute, POW/MIA Missing Man Ceremoney, a keynote address by retired Lt. Gen. James R. Ellis and a highway dedication. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. The park is located at 3602 U.S. 301 N in Tampa.

Clearwater Wall of Honor Dedication: The city of Clearwater and the Tampa Bay Veterans Alliance will be dedicating a historical exhibit honoring Clearwater's World War I service members, whose names were discovered during the renovation of the Capitol Theater.  The ceremony will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 9-10 a.m. at the Clearwater Main Library, located at 100 N. Osceola Ave.

American Legion Post 7: A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. The Post will provide lunch for all attendees after the ceremony. The post is located at 1760 Turner St. in Clearwater.

VFW Post 6180: A ceremony will be held starting at 11 a.m. The Post is located at 11551 Osceola Dr. in New Port Richey.

Aripeka Elks Lodge 2520: The ceremony will include a turkey dinner and feature music by At Large. Wear your uniform if it fits. Ceremony begins at 5 p.m. The Elks Lodge is located at 9135 Denton Ave. in Hudson.

Palm Harbor Library: A reception with food and drink will be held Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. at the Palm Harbor Library. A free book will be given to any veteran with a valid military ID.

Free admission for veterans

The Florida Aquarium: All veterans, active duty, drilling reservist or National Guard members can get two free tickets to the aquarium on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Additional family members (up to 4) can get half-priced admission.

Lowry Park Zoo: Military members and up to three dependents can receive free admission to Lowry Park Zoo with a Department of Defense photo ID.

Florida State Parks: Admission will be free to all Florida state parks on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day. For more information about state parks, visit floridastateparks.org.

Glazer Children's Museum: Admission is free for military members with ID and their families.

Museum of Science and Industry: All active and retired military personnel, EMTs, firefighters and police officers can get into the museum for $5.

South Florida Museum: U.S. veterans and active duty military will receive free admission to the museum for the entire month of Nov.

Sunken Gardens: Free admission will be available on Tuesday, Nov. 11 for U.S. veterans and active military members with valid ID.

Veterans Day closures

Polk County Clerk of Courts: Offices closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 8 a.m. Online services such as traffic tickets and record searches are available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hernando County government offices: Offices will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11. The Solid Waste Management facility will remain open, and Republic Services will provide trash pick-up.

St. Petersburg city government facilities: The closed facilities include include City Hall and Municipal Services Center downtown, community libraries, The Greenhouse (formerly Business Assistance Center), Enoch Davis Center, Sunshine Center, Dwight H. Jones Neighborhood Center, Jamestown Apartments and Townhomes Office, Coliseum, and Sunken Gardens' business offices. Tuesday trash collections will be made on Wednesday.
