Thousands of students from Polk County are getting a better understanding of just what programs the schools in their area have to offer.

The school district is hosting their seventh annual WE3 Expo at Sun ‘n Fun fairgrounds.

Schools offering everything from medical to science related programs for students of all ages.

District officials said the expo is meant to show children and their parents some the best education programs Polk County has to offer no matter where they live.

Many of the students said they’re enjoying the experience and it’s helping them choose their next school.

Ten-year-old Ryan Gerstler said it helped with his decision.

“I like Lakeland High School because of some of the booths that Lakeland High School had,” he said.

Students got to see some of the programs that teach them how to lay bricks and work as emergency personnel. There’s even a program that offers students the chance to learn a special fighting technique.

It’s an experience students said is both cool and educational.

And district officials are hoping the 5,000 young people who attended the field trip to the expo will share the experience with their parents.

The three-day expo will be open to the public this Saturday. The district is offering transportation for families who live in other areas of the county.
