A man who was pulled from his car after it caught fire near Mulberry is trying to find the person who saved him.

Lavorius McPlatt was inches from losing his life on Tuesday. His tire blew out on State Road 60, causing him to lose control of his car and flip at least three to four times, before his car burst into flames.

“All I remember is hitting something and blacking out, and I woke up down there in the grass,” McPlatt said.

He said he was able to defy the odds, thanks to someone who stopped and pulled him from his car just before it went up in flames.

“I couldn’t even believe it,” he said. “They said I wasn’t supposed to make it out of there. Going back and just seeing that car, I can see why they said that.”

So now the 26-year-old is on a mission to find his hero but so far, no luck.

“I remember them sliding me up here and then sliding me back and that’s when I heard them say that it was about to blow," McPlatt said. "I came back to, but my car was sideways and I didn’t even see the person who pulled me out to thank them.”

Bay News 9 tracked down Pamela Earle, who said she ran across the busy street and called 911 when she spotted the crash, but she said the scene was so chaotic, she didn’t see the rescuer’s face either.

“It was a miracle," Earle said. "It was just God’s grace that he even survived that and that whoever helped him, pulled him out, they were heroic in getting him out of there in a timely manner. Because that car was catching on fire.”

McPlatt said he’s not sure what his chances are of reuniting with the person who saved him but he has a message to them.

“I just want to say to my guardian angel, that’s what I’m gonna call you because I don’t know who you are, I just want to say thank you,” he said.

Officials from the sheriff’s office said the accident report will probably be available in a couple of weeks.
