The gift-giving season is nearly here. Sometimes it’s not easy to figure out who you should get a present for when it comes to co-workers.

A lot of people, like Jan Brown, spread the holiday cheer to their co-workers with a card or a gift.

“It’s just the thought that counts, that you’re being remembered at Christmas time and you’re sharing it and you’re sharing the event with them,” Brown said.

If you don’t know who you should get a card for, experts say in a small office, there’s one simple rule.

“I think if you’re giving one, you give to everybody,” said Kim Goddard, owner of Proper Protocol. “This is a time when emotions are running rampant.”

But what about the hairdresser, babysitter or other people who provide you a service year-round? There are rules to follow here, too.

“The general rule of thumb for a service is to give them what that service is worth,” Goddard said. “If your babysitter normally gets $25 for the evening, give them an extra $25.”

At Monique’s French Accents in Tampa, stylists say clients overwhelm them with holiday generosity.

“It’s mostly money and gift cards and wine - a lot. A lot of wine. And sometimes gift baskets,” said Frank Youncz.
