Health officials are warning parents to pay attention to colds in newborns.

Officials say the peak season for respiratory syncytial virus or RSV is November through April.

The virus may only cause mild symptoms in healthy infants.

"Like other respiratory infections, the typical symptoms of RSV would be runny nose, cough, congestion," said Dr. Robert Wiskind with Peachtree Park Pediatrics. "In an older child, they might complain of eye symptoms, itching. Certainly they can have fever with it."

For most children, experts recommend at-home treatments such as acetaminophen for a fever, drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, and using a humidifier.
