The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will have three public workshops to discuss management of Black Bears in Florida' Big Bend area.

The workshops are planned for December in Homosassa, Dade City and Chiefland.

The black bear management plan approved in 2012 called for seven bear management units to be established throughout the state. This allows for the agency to manage bears based on their characteristics and to have public workshops in those areas.

The first will be Dec. 2 in Homosassa. Another is planned for Dade City on Dec. 3 and the final workshop will take place Dec. 4 in Chiefland.

Six other units have already been established: West Panhandle, Central, East Panhandle, South, North and South Central.
