A third sinkhole has opened at the Holiday Travel Park on Torch Street.

Bay News 9 spoke with a resident who was hoping to go home, but instead was greeted by a sinkhole in her driveway.

“I’m just, you know, doing the best that I can,” said Penny Sharpe.

Sharpe was evacuated from her home two weeks ago and Sunday night she found out another sinkhole opened up in her driveway.

“I was kind of expecting it,” Sharpe said.

The first sinkhole that opened up was 70 feet deep while the second was 50 feet deep. This hole is only a few feet deep, but that could change. The first two sinkholes were filled this past weekend.

Monday geologists were out again running more tests.

“We’re literally bringing out material in a spoon and looking at it, as well as getting the density information,” said Dr. Bret Jarrett, a geologist.

Residents around the trailer park were popping by Monday asking geologists when it will be safe to return home, but that’s still to be determined.

“We’ll just hope and pray that it stops,” said resident Bill Lee.

Bill and Carol Lee live a couple blocks down and say they’re worried that even if they decided to pick up and leave they would take a loss on their home.

“Our property value, just having what’s happened now, has already gone down,” said Carol Lee.

As for Penny, she’s just trying to keep her head up.

“It’s nerve-racking you know, it’s right before Thanksgiving," Lee said. "You want to be in planning your Thanksgiving, having friends over.”

Geologists will be running tests up and down Torch Street to find out if its stable.

Shortly after the second sinkhole opened up the county stopped work on a nearby sewer project.

Monday the county handed out letters to residents letting them know the work will continue to be halted until it gets the go ahead from its geotechnical engineer.
