A flood watch continues until Wednesday morning for the entire Bay area region.

Showers and storms steadily moved in from the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday ahead of a cold front.

"The heaviest rains have moved through and will continue moving east. But there will be lingering showers all the way into the Wednesday morning rush hour," said Bay News 9 meteorologist Brian McClure.

All seven counties in the Bay News 9 viewing area had rain Tuesday. There were reports of slightly over 4 inches of rain at Ridge Manor in eastern Hernando County and about 3 inches at Spring Hill in west Hernando.

"We already have broken a daily rainfall record in Tampa. So far, as of 9 p.m. we’ve received 3.28 inches. The old record for this date was 1.65 inches set in 2000," McClure said.

The cold front will move through early with dropping temperatures.

"Expect morning temperature in the upper 50s to low 60s and then afternoon highs only in the low 60s," McClure said. "So basically, the temperatures will not move much all day, making for a much cooler day."

Wednesday will not be a good day for the beach.

"The winds will be very strong leading to dangerous boating conditions," McClure said. "There will also be a risk of rip currents along area beaches and a high surf advisory in place."

Forecasters have issued a river flood warning through Thursday afternoon for Little Manatee River at Wimauma, the Manatee River near Myakka Head and the Anclote River at Elfers.

A river flood warning was also issued for the Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens and the Hillsborough River near Zephyrhills.

McClure said the rain event was impressive for this time of year.

"Typically, November is our “driest” month of the year, averaging just 1.55 inches for the whole month," he said.

Thanksgiving morning will be downright cold, with temps in the mid 40s around Tampa Bay, and the afternoon will be chilly, with highs around 64.

Clear, cooler and drier conditions will continue through the weekend.

The Bay News 9 viewing area includes Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Polk, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.
