Tampa police are investigating reports of a monkey on the loose.

According to the Tampa Police Department, two different people called 911 to report sightings of a large monkey. The first call came at 2:30 p.m. to report a signting in the yard of a house on West Hiawatha Street.

About an hour later, another person spotted a monkey about 12 blocks away, running east on Sligh Avenue at the bridge, police said.

Officers have been looking for it since then.

Police said the monkey is described as being about three feet tall, brown and fast. Lowry Park Zoo officials said all of their monkeys are accounted for, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has not received any similar calls.

Anyone who has any information is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130

This isn't the first time the Bay area has had sightings of a mystery monkey. A monkey was loose in the Bay area for three years, and even bit a woman before it was finally captured.

The monkey, now named Cornelius, is living in captivity.
