A Florida Highway Patrol trooper is being hailed as a hero after saving a Brooksville woman who was being choked by her seatbelt.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Trooper Brad Wagner was patrolling the northbound lanes of the Suncoast Parkway on Thanksgiving night when he was flagged down by a man standing outside a 2010 Toyota parked on the outside shoulder of the highway near the mile 32 post in Pasco County.

Wagner stopped to help and discovered the 38-year-old woman entangled in the passenger side seatbelt. Officials said the couple's 4-year-old daughter had been resistant to staying in her child seat and put the seatbelt around her mother's neck.

The seatbelt then locked in place, and her husband's efforts to remove the seatbelt only further tightened it, and the seatbelt began choking the woman, officials said.  She was nearly unconscious by the time Wagner pulled out a knife to cut the seatbelt, officials said.

The woman was able to start breathing again, and after she was evaluated by emergency crews, the family was sent on their way, officials said.

This isn't the first time Wagner has been credited with quick-thinking action that saved a person's life.  Officials said that on Sept. 18, Wagner responded to a crash on the Suncoast Parkway near Waters Avenue and found an unconscious driver who had been thrown on the roadway.

Wagner quickly provided CPR, which eventually saved the driver's life.
