Fitness monitors, bands and other gadgets seem cool, but do they actually help you lose weight?

Fitness trainers say they do. If you need motivation, these wearable fitness devices clip on your belt, strap around your wrist or hang around your neck.

The devices measure your daily steps, sleep patterns and calories burned.

They also connect to your smartphone or computer so you can track what you eat.

Experts suggest you set a goal for yourself and look for a device that helps you achieve it.

Exercise and lifespan

Here's another reason to exercise: it can add years to your life.

Doctors say it’s truly a healthy choice.

It can reduce depression, produce better sleep habits, a better diet and it helps you take fewer medications.

Studies find that young adults engaging in 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week added up to five years to their lives.

Foods that contain trans fat - bad for your memory?

The Food and Drug Administration has made a preliminary decision that "partially hydrogenated oils - are not safe."

A study found people with high trans fat diets remembered less.

For every extra gram of trans fat the men ate a day they remembered fewer words.

Scientists suspect that trans fat may cause a certain kind of cell damage that affects the brain.

Obesity and cancer

Here in the U.S., people being overweight or obese is a growing problem.

The World Health Organization says that it’s a contributing factor to why this country has half a million cases of cancer each year.

Leaders say more needs to be done to help people maintain a healthy weight and that'll reduce their risk of developing a wide range of cancers.

Also more should be done to help developing countries avoid the problems currently faced by wealthier regions.
