The city of Lakeland is trying to make it easier for drivers to pay for parking downtown.

The city is one of more than a dozen in the state using an app which allows drivers to pay for parking.

“I think it’s good -- technology is good," said Lakeland resident, Scott Purdie. "I like it when municipalities use technology to improve the area.”

The app will also give people an alert to let them know when their meter is running out of time.

“I think it’s great anything that’s on an app I think is tremendous," said Lakeland visitor Stephen Rooney. "Especially for here because I very seldom carry cash with me so I like the app.”

Most people said the use of the app is very convenient, especially when they can’t fit into those free parallel spots downtown.

“I’m not a very good parallel parker, I freely admit that," Purdie said. "I’ve also got my family here from out of town, and we have four cars and we needed a place where we can park four cars.”

If you’re thinking this is a complicated process, it’s not, it’s pretty simple. All you have to do is scan the code and download the app or you can just visit their website.

You’ll have to add your location and credit card information but for some, that’s not the hard part. For many, remembering the number of the spot they parked in is the real dilemma.

City leaders say since the app went live earlier this month almost two dozen people have signed up.
