A new holiday lights display called “Celebration of Lights” is brightening up Pasco County.

"I don't think any of us really knew how big it was," said Kara Parris, the executive director.

A father's dream to watch the lights go up has been in the making for four years.

"My dad was living in Pasco County for 20 years and he did a whole lot in the community," said Parris.

With every string and every bulb, Parris helped make her father’s vision brighter.

"I signed up just to do the children’s games," she said.

Two months ago the light of Kara’s life was gone forever.

"He fought till the end and was working on this and then he just said 'hey I think you're the boss now,'" Parris said.

Kara’s dad Dave fought esophageal cancer for two years.

"I just know how my dad was and he would never have stopped so I thought I could put a light up."

Try 50,000 lights. Family, friends, and even the sheriff’s office and the inmates lent a hand.

"Something to give back to the community and show our thanks," said Brandon Markey, an inmate trustee.

Kara says there’s been many ups and downs but the show must go on. As reindeers prance and children laugh its memories the Parris’s hope will become tradition -- fulfilling her dads dream, well that’s the best gift of all.

You can drive through the park listening to Christmas music. There is also festive entertainment where children can take pictures with Santa.

All the proceeds will be going to charities. The display will be running through January 3.
