Elections officials said Wednesday they will conduct a machine recount of votes cast on a city of Largo charter amendment.
Voters by a very slight margin Tuesday approved an amendment assuring that the mayor and city commissioners get the same percentage of raises that city management employees get, but no more than 3 percent in any year.
Because the amendment passed by only 45 votes (11,426 to 11,381), a machine recount of all votes cast was triggered.
Largo's mayor earns $19,688 annually, and the city commissioners currently make $13,125.
The recount will be held Friday, when the Pinellas County Canvassing Board meets to also canvass provisional ballots and certify the unofficial results in the election.
