The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is cracking down on businesses that sell synthetic marijuana.

On Friday, sheriff's detectives along with agents with the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco executed search warrants at four businesses in Seffner. They found suspicious items at three of them.

Detectives said a total of 219 bags of synthetic marijuana, a small amount of cannabis, a Xanax, a handgun and $7,995 resulting in proceeds from illegal spice sales.

"Our greatest concern is obviously it falls into the wrong hands, it hits these middle schools and high schools. Due to the fact, too, that because it’s not a controlled substance and its made overseas and these labs that we don't have any knowledge of, we're not really sure of the chemical compound and for that reason alone we find it dangerous," said Sgt. Shannon Ostojic.

Two people were arrested.

Melissa Mayes, 35, of Thonotosassa, is being charged with possession of Xanax.

Mohammad Farhan, 35, of Tampa, is being charged with possession of marijuana.

The sheriff's office sent the K2 spice to a crime lab to be analyzed.

Depending on those results, they said more arrest warrants and charges could be filed.
