Hernando County residents are fighting a plan to allow rock mining on the west side of Brooksville.
The plan would allow for the construction of a rock mine along State Road 50.
According to our partners at the Tampa Bay Times, residents opposed to the plan packed Tuesday night's county commission meeting.
The residents said they are worried about pollution, property values and the destruction of wildlife habitat.
In the end, commissioners voted to send the mine plan by Cemex Construction Materials Florida to the state for review.
