A Bay area doctor granted the wish of a Zephyrhills family in need of a handicap accessible vehicle.

Dr. Alfred Bonati, of the Bonati Spine Institute in Hudson, handed over the keys of a minivan to the Clanton family on Wednesday.

Yvonne Clanton called it a blessing for her 10-year-old daughter Selah. The little girl was left severely brain damaged after falling into a canal in New York in 2012 and is confined to a wheel chair.

In March, the family entered a national contest for a handicap accessible minivan, but didn’t win. Dr. Bonati said he and his staff saw coverage of the family’s story on Bay News 9 and decided to step in.

"We thought there was an opportunity to help them,” Bonati said.

"Today is actually the first time we've had all the children out together in two years,” said Yvonne, of her family of seven. "We've actually talked about going to the flea market. We've never gone to this famous flea market by our house."

It’s the simple things many of us take for granted that now the Clanton’s will be able to enjoy.

“Selah obviously doesn't understand,” Yvonne Clanton said.  “But somewhere in her little heart, I think she knows that people care."
