A Crystal River family continues to deal with the aftermath of a horrifying tragedy.

Joaquin Camejo will never forget his 2-year-old grandson Christopher, who was killed last weekend by the family's dogs. Officials said the toddler somehow got out of the house alone and ended up in the backyard, where he was attacked.

Camejo said he is crushed by the loss of his grandson.

"Completely devastated," he said. "This is going to be a hard, hard recovery. He was my everything."

Camejo says Christopher was his buddy. Happy and playful, the little boy was just learning to talk.

"There were certain things that were just so cute about him," Camejo said. "When he ran to me, 'Eat, Papa, let's eat.' "

Camejo says his dogs never acted aggressive before and he still can't believe they did what they did.

"It was devastating to see my grandson lying there," Camejo said. "It was just devastating."

Christopher's family has set up a memorial in the backyard where his body was found. They placed flowers on the fence and wrote messages in chalk on the ground, all on the ground. All reminders of a life taken too soon.

Camejo said he still talks to his best friend.

"That's how I grieve," he said. "I go out there and start talking to him. 'Hey little man, I'm out here. I love you.' "

The family has set up a fund for donations if you'd like to help with the funeral costs.
