A Hernando County deputy has resigned because of misconduct.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis received information that Bill Kicklighter had given an agency purchased cell phone to a relative without authorization.

The cell phone was no longer being used by Kicklighter and had been replaced by a newer model.

The information was confirmed by Kicklighter.

The sheriff said he lost confidence in Kicklighter's ability to carry out the duties of Chief Administrative Officer.

Kicklighter elected to resign by giving proper notice.
