People all over the Bay area are complaining about a loud noise that was so powerful it shook some homes on Friday afternoon.

In the Aripeka community in Pasco County people who live there say the sound was frightening.

“It sounded like somebody was letting off dynamite," said resident Laurane Pepito.

Pepito’s neighbor said the mysterious noise rattled her home.

“All of a sudden my whole house just, it shook like something hit it and I thought we were either having an earthquake or something hit my home,” said resident Gail Griffey.

Most of the people who contacted Bay News 9 said they didn’t know who to call when they heard that loud noise or felt their house shake. Many called 911 while others say they waited for some government agency to show up to explain to them what happened.

But that never happened. We made calls to several military bases and never heard back.

The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s office did post a message on their Facebook page saying the sound was from a weapons systems test with the military.

Our viewers on Facebook also chimed in with what they thought the cause was.

One viewer blamed mines while another joked Santa was to blame, but for most people this was no laughing matter.

“It was very frightening,” Pepito said.

A frightening experience the people who lived through it say they want answers for and a warning the next time it happens.
