A water main break has shut down a major Tampa roadway.

All lanes have been shut down in both directions on MacDill Avenue from Estrella Street to Morrison Avenue.

A water main break was caused by a directional drilling contractor. Barricades and signs for alternate routes are in place. Drivers are advised to use caution when driving near the area.

Repairs to the water main are expected to be completed by late Friday. Roadway repairs are expected to be completed with MacDill reopened by Tuesday afternoon.

A city truck actually fell into a hole when the road caved in due to the water main break. The driver was not injured.
