A crash between a dump truck and a PSTA bus sent seven people to various hospitals early Saturday.

The crash occurred just before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Hampton Road and Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard when a westbound dump truck ran the red light and collided with the bus, which was eastbound and trying to make a left turn onto Hampton.

The dump truck, which was hauling a load of dirt, overturned after the collision and slid about 250 feet on its side. The dirt and spills of oil and antifreeze had to be cleaned from the roadway, which closed most lanes for more than three hours.

The driver of the bus and dump truck were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Five other people were transported to Mease Countryside and Morton Plant hospitals.

None of the injuries was considered to be life-threatening.

The driver of the dump truck, Osvaldo Molano Rodriguez, 55, of Tampa, was cited for running a red light. The driver of the bus was Ray David Jones, 49, of Largo.

There were 13 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident.
