Calls poured in to sheriff offices and police stations from northern Hillsborough and Pinellas counties up to Citrus County.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management solved the mystery late last week, saying the noises were from military exercises in the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, more exercises are scheduled for Monday and will continue throughout the week.
