An off-duty St. Petersburg police officer was arrested in Tampa early Monday and charged with driving under the influence.

Allan McTavish, 51, was pulled over after running a red light at Bearss and Nebraska avenues around 1 a.m, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office told the Tampa Bay Times.

McTavish showed signs of impairment and refused to submit to testing, the sheriff's office told the Times.

McTavish joined the St. Pete police department in 1984. In 2011, he was one of the officers involved in a shootout with fugitive Hydra Lacy Jr. on 28th Avenue S. Two officers and Lacy were killed.

McTavish will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the police department said.
