The Florida Department of Health-Polk County has launched the Florida Health Cleans Up! project.

It's in support of the Florida Department of Transportation's roadside litter prevention media campaign "Drive it home ... Keep Our Paradise Litter Free."

Polk is participating in the City of Bartow's Adopt-a-Park Program. This project allows FDOH-Polk to partner with the community to help maintain a clean park environment. Staff of FDOH-Polk will kick-off their clean-up efforts this from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday by cleaning up trash at Mary Holland Park in Bartow.

"We are excited to help keep Mary Holland Park a clean and friendly place to visit. This park is enjoyed by many, including health department staff who visit the park on lunch break," said Dr. Ulyee Choe, Director of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County. "It will also be a great way get active while helping the community."

In addition to the cleanup and in support of the Healthiest Weight Initiative, staff participating are also encouraged to collect healthy canned food items to donate to a local shelter for a healthy holiday meal. Healthy canned food items include fruits in their natural juices (no added sugars), vegetables (low sodium), broths (low sodium), beans, pumpkin, yams, etc.
