Deputies arrested a Clearwater woman on Thursday after they said she slapped an elderly woman for refusing to accept her Facebook friend request.

According to deputies, 27-year-old Rachel Anne Hayes became engaged in verbal argument with a 72-year-old woman, after the woman refused her Facebook friend request because she felt the name that Hayes was using on Facebook was inappropriate.

The woman told Hayes she would be willing to accept the request if she would change the name, deputies said.

According to deputies, Hayes became upset when the woman refused and walked out of the home. When she returned, the two re-engaged in an argument at the front door of the home.

Deputies said Hayes slapped the woman several times, before the woman was able to retreat into the home and lock the door.

When deputies responded, the Hayes had already left the home.

Through their investigation, deputies were able to arrest Hayes and charge her with felony aggravated battery on an elderly person.

Hayes was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.
