Manatee County Animal Services is extending its adoption special after a record number of dogs and cats were adopted this past weekend.

Officials said 66 dogs and cats were adopted over the weekend, which helped relieve severe overcrowding at the Palmetto shelter.

In an effort to encourage more people to adopt an animal, the agency is extending its special pricing for pet adoptions.

Through Saturday, dogs and cats can be adopted for $20, plus a $15 pet license fee for Manatee residents.

Dogs are normally $80, while cats are normally $40.

Once an animal is adopted, it will receive a checkup, be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.
