A Dade City family of seven who lost their home and everything they owned to a fire last week is getting a little help from the community.

The Castros were grilling when a propane tank exploded and burned down their mobile home. Everything was lost, including their Christmas gifts, but this year the community is bringing them Christmas.

Once the fire engulfed the Castros home the family only had minutes to act.

“It took off so fast we were kind of trapped in the other room with them on the other side of the door,” said Stephanie Castro.

Stephanie and Julian rushed to get the kids, fortunately saving their lives. All that was left were some burnt photos.

“I was wondering what I was going to do next,” said Julian Castro.

That's when the community stepped in. The Pasco County School District donated two SUVs full of gifts. They were packed up and brought to the Castro’s front door.

“We never imagined this much ever,” said Stephanie.

Hardly able to contain themselves, the girls got a couple early presents. If this wasn’t enough a local landlord also lent a helping hand.

“He came and handed me the keys to the house, he told me it was mine that we would talk about rent later,” said Julian.

The family says they don’t know where they would be without the outpour of support from the community.

Anyone who wishes to donate to help out the Castro family can do so through a GoFundMe page set up by the family.
