Everyday Hero Dianna Thomas' mission to feed hungry school children in Pasco County started with her daughter.

“My little girl is the whole reason that this organization came about," she said. "She was going through money on her lunch account pretty fast, a little bit faster than normal."

Dianna’s daughter told her mom she was spending the money to buy food for her classmates.

“She was buying them for friends in her class that had stated that they were still hungry," Thomas said. "They would like to buy that but they didn’t have money in their account."

That’s how “The Thomas Promise” was born. Thomas met with school leaders to find out how many low income and hungry children there were. Her organization sends home bags of food with children for the weekend.

The bags include things like oatmeal, Pop Tarts, Ramen noodles, soups, macaroni and cheese, ravioli, apple sauce, raisins, granola bars and more.

“The Thomas Promise” is in its third year, handing out hundreds of bags a week. Each bag costs up to $2. Dianna pays with her own money and gets funding through donations and fundraisers.

The group also helps low income children with field trips, band and other after school activities.
