The New Port Richey City Council is taking another step in the push to restore the historic Hacienda Hotel.

According to our partners at the Tampa Bay Times, the city council voted this week to make a deal with an architect to conduct a structural assessment and develop a restoration plan.

The Times reports that the council agreed to pay $95,000 to Atelier Architecture Engineering Construction Inc. of Tampa. Part of the money comes from a state-matching grant the city received in October.

The hotel was built in the 1920s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been closed for several years and has since fallen into disrepair. Several attempts to restore the building have fallen through.
