A bicyclist who crossed in front of a vehicle on Gandy Boulevard was struck and fatally injured Friday night, police said.

The cyclist was riding east in the far left median lane near the I-275 on-ramp around 10:15 p.m. and unexpectedly crossed in front of a 1996 Ford Taurus, according to St. Petersburg police.

Crews transported the cyclist to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he or she later died. Authorities have withheld the cyclist's identity pending notification of family.

The driver of the Taurus, 61-year-old Lisa Tillman Walker, suffered minor injuries.
