Auburndale police are investigating the unexpected death of an infant.

According to reports, the 1-month-old was brought to the Auburndale Fire Department by its paternal grandmother before being transported to Winter Haven Hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead.

The Auburndale Police Department determined that the infant was brought to the fire department after one of the grandmother's older grandchildren brought the unresponsive baby to her, while they were at home on Julie Lane near Century Boulevard in Auburndale.

Police believe the infant was at the home and may have been sleeping with several other children, ranging in ages between 3 and 10, and was last seen responsive around midnight, when the baby was fed and put back to sleep.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the 10-year-old child discovered the baby was unresponsive and took it to the grandmother.

More details will be released as they become available.
