December isn't usually warm and rainy, but that's what the Tampa Bay area is going to get for parts of the next few days.

Today will be cloudy with a 50 percent showers, thanks to a front that has stalled across the area. High temperatures will range from the mid 70s near the coast to around 80 degrees in Polk County.

A disturbance will bring widespread rain tonight, and some of it could be heavy, according to Bay News 9 chief meteorologist Mike Clay.

"We haven't had much rain since we had that very wet November," Clay said. "But here we go. Get ready for some rain to move in."

The rain chance will back off to 40 percent Monday before picking up to 50 percent Tuesday. Both days will be warmer than normal, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

But then a line of rain will arrive ahead of a cold front on Wednesday, pushing the rain chance to 80 percent.

"By Wednesday, winds pick up in the Gulf and there will be a squall line out in the Gulf coming in during the day," Clay said. "It looks like it will be weakening as it arrives just before Christmas Eve."

The cold front will cool things off for Christmas Day. Highs will be in the 60s and the lows on Friday morning will be in the mid 40s.

Warm temperatures will return for the weekend, Clay said.
