Hundreds of people lined up in Brooksville to get a free turkey and some holiday cheer.

For the third year in a row, the Lowman Law Firm handed out 250 turkeys. Part of Main Street in downtown Brooksville was closed as people lined up down the block for a free bird.

Charlotte Davenport and her daughter are among those who scored a free holiday turkey. Without it, Christmas dinner wouldn't be very festive for their big family.

"We would have tuna sandwiches or whatever we could find to eat." Davenport said.

Davenport and her family are having a hard time financially. She says the turkey is going to have to be the main Christmas present for her five grandkids.

"The children all need something to uplift their spirits for the holiday, because it is going to be a very small holiday for them," Davenport said.

Stephanie Lowman and her family are the ones behind the giveaway. She says this is what the holidays are all about.

"Something nice to do," Lowman said. "Give back to the community. Sort of bring everybody together."

All the turkeys went fast and Davenport is glad she got hers.

"It is a Christmas blessing for us all," she said.

A Christmas blessing that's going to fill a lot of bellies this holiday season.

The people at the law firm say they plan to give away more turkeys again next year.
