While prospects for a White Christmas are gone in the Eastern United States, areas from the Great Lakes and in the Rockies should be able enjoy a snow for the holiday.

Delays could start on Wednesday as a complex winter storm crosses the nation as another storm moves into the Rockies Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Snow on the ground in New England could be quickly removed by a rainy and warm system through Christmas Eve. Along with the rain, it will be windy which could cause airport delays. The mountains of the Northeast are the only areas that could maintain snowcover.

Colder air will return on Christmas Day, snow showers will develop in the Great Lakes and eventually back to the mountains of New England.

Rain and thunderstorms could move through Florida and the Carolinas on Wednesday.

Snow has started in the mountains of the West. Travel problems are already reported in Colorado. The snow will continue and increase by Christmas, bringing a guaranteed White Christmas to the mountains.

Very wet weather in the Pacific Northwest will continue through Christmas Eve, but a break in the rain and snow is forecast by Christmas Day with a much drier pattern by Friday.
