Being Everyday Heroes is a family affair for two cousins in St. Petersburg. Brazienna Hook, 12, and Haley VanScoyoc, 17, collect blankets, socks and gloves to give out to the homeless. The project is called Operation Snuggle Up.

It all started on a drive about two years ago.

“We saw this one lady and she was sitting on the side of a building and we could tell that she was really cold,” Brazienna said. “We had a blanket in the back of the trunk. We just took that one out and we gave it to her.”

The cousins use money from their allowance and collect donations on a Facebook page. In two years, they’ve given away hundreds of blankets, socks and gloves to the homeless on cold nights.

“We kinds just go downtown or if we see someone here and there, everyone deserves a blanket,” Haley said.

Angie Abbott, mom and aunt to the girls, always goes along with them.

“All I can say is they make me unbelievably proud,” Angie said. “This is all something they’ve put into action. It’s beyond words. It warms my heart.”
